Why Work With a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist?
Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are the most qualified health care professionals to deliver nutrition education and medical nutrition therapy (MNT) services for prevention, wellness and disease management. RDNs must complete specialized education and training and meet the necessary qualifications to hold this nationally recognized certification. RDNs can improve health and increase productivity and satisfaction levels through decreased doctor visits, hospitalizations and reduced prescription drug coverage.
Nutrition information and advice is ubiquitous, but often conflicting, confusing and not based on scientific evidence. It’s also important to remember that nutrition is not one-size-fits-all — there are many factors beyond just how much you eat that can impact your nutrition status. Working with a RDN ensures you are receiving individualized nutrition interventions rooted in evidence-based practices that are both safe and effective.
MNT provided from six to 12 months yields significant weight losses of up to 10% of body weight with maintenance of this weight loss beyond one year. Additionally, the inclusion of nutrition interventions and counseling, when provided by a RDN as part of a health care team, results in significant improvements in weight and BMI, A1C, blood pressure and serum lipids.
How Often Do We Meet?
Follow-up sessions are important to monitor your progress, modify your treatment plan, and provide support. Frequency of visits vary depending on treatment plan and goals.
I’ve Tried Dieting in the Past, Why Will This Work?
Diets are something you’re either “on” or “off” and many are marketed toward the masses rather than customized to an individual’s needs. My approach is to find a sustainable way of eating that's right for you (so you can both enjoy what you eat and feel good!) – we will work together to establish healthy habits that align with your lifestyle and stick with.
Some already know what to eat for optimal health but struggle with consistent implementation. I understand these challenges and am here to coach you through the process – behavior change doesn't happen overnight. Through meeting on a regular basis, I’m able to provide the ongoing support and accountability that you need to meet your goals. I will help you identify obstacles or barriers that are impacting your nutrition and together we will develop an action plan. Through mindful eating practices I will also teach you to rediscover the joy of eating.
Do You Accept Insurance?
Currently, I accept Cigna and United Health Care. If you are with another insurance company and your plan reimburses for nutrition counseling, I can provide you with a superbill (medical receipt for reimbursement), upon request. Superbills are submitted by you, the client, to your insurance company - you will be reimbursed directly if the service is covered.
